Fractures and traumatology

Have you suffered a fracture or injury and are looking for an experienced and qualified trauma surgeon (traumatologist) to provide you with expert care?

I have many years of clinical experience in trauma surgery, particularly in the conservative and surgical treatment of various bone fractures. In addition to my work at the University Hospital of Basel, where I worked for many years in the field of traumatology, I spent three years in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada), where I was responsible for the orthopaedic emergency service for a catchment area of over 500,000 inhabitants. In this role, I surgically treated hundreds of patients with acute orthopaedic injuries and acquired a broad surgical spectrum and a high level of routine in the treatment of complex fractures (see Fig. 1).

The practice location at the Hirslanden Klinik Birshof offers me the opportunity to see emergency patients around the clock, even outside of regular consultation hours. The clinic specialises in trauma surgery and orthopaedics of the musculoskeletal system and has a modern medical infrastructure.

In the case of comminuted fractures or complex injuries, we have an intraoperative 3D imaging system (O-arm, see Fig. 2) at our disposal during the operation. With the help of these high-resolution X-ray images, the correct anatomical reduction and fixation of the fracture can be checked even more precisely - directly in the operating theatre.

Figure 2: The O-arm enables high-resolution X-ray images to be taken during the operation. Compared to conventional fluoroscopy devices, it allows a much more precise control of the bone position - especially when treating complex fractures.
